Some compounds from the rhizome of Zingiber montanum

Ngai say vang has the scientific name Zingiber montanum or synonym cassumunar Roxb. belongs to Ginger family (Zingiberaceae). The tree is native India and suitable for humid tropical climate of Asian countries. In Vietnam, this species found in Binh Dinh, An Giang Soc Trang provinces, with local names such as Gung dai, tia, vang. traditional medicine, rhizomes Z. have been often used remedies that treat rheumatism, muscle pain, stomach irritation, laxative, anti-diarrheal, colic mosquito repellent. By combining column chromatography (CC) thin-layer (TLC, PTLC) techniques on normal phase reversed-phase systems, five pure compounds were isolated from fraction H montanum. Structures elucidated by analyzing nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, HRESI-MS mass spectrometry comparison references. All two diphenylbutenoids – phlain III (1) V (2), stigmastanes 6b-hydroxystigmast-4-en-3-one (3) stigmast-4-en-3,6-dione (4), a simple phenolic compound vanillin (5).
